    question

When I launch Word I notice a button in the toolbar marked "EZP". When I place the cursor over it the legend says "Launch Easy Photo". When I try to launch the program I get an error box saying, "Run-time error '1220'. Word cannot find or run the application." This in itself is not too much of a problem but every time I launch Word I get another identical button. Ten launches = ten buttons. If I right click on the "EZP" button, go to "customize" then right click the button again I get the option to delete each button individually - until the next time… Is there any way out of this? I am running Office 2000 in Windows 2000 on a Pentium 3 machine. Answer: This button sounds like a macro that has become attached to your Normal.dot, which is the template that opens automatically each time you start Word 2000. Open a blank Document in Word. Go to the Tools menu, to the Macro and click on Macros. A list of current Macros appears. At the bottom of the dialogue box there is a line that says Macros in: and then a bar. Click the drop down arrow next to this line (on right) and choose from the list "Normal.dot". This will now list the macros included in the Normal template. If your button is listed here, click on it in the list and then click the Delete button to the right. If it is not listed, then it is not a macro and we need to explore further. Try this first and then let me know the results. When you close the document, Word should ask you if you want to save the changes to the Normal.dot and you should reply Yes. Close the program and open it again to see if the problem is fixed. [Note: I recently received clarification on this question from someone who had read my answer here and sent a response with a better answer to the problem. I am most appreciative of that response and include it here.] Someone asked about the multiplying EZP icons in Word -- your suggestion that it's a macro is half-correct, but your solution doesn't work. The prob is EZPhoto isn't compatible with Word 2000. The workaround, is outlined in the knowledge base article : http://2fix.bvu.edu/help/apps/word/27-1.asp To work around this problem, rename the Ezpwll32.wll file that is installed by EZ-Photo, and rename the global template (Normal.dot). To do this, follow these steps: NOTE: Renaming the Ezpwll32.wll and the Normal.dot files removes all functionality of EZ-Photo with Microsoft Word. However, the default functionality of EZ-Photo as an application is not affected. For Windows 2000, follow these steps:

    • Quit all Windows applications.
    • Right-click the Windows Start menu, and click Explore on the shortcut menu that appears.
    • In the Windows Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
    • On the View tab, under Advanced settings, click Show hidden files and folders. If Show all files is not displayed, follow these steps first:
      • On the View tab, under Advanced settings, double-click Files and Folders.
      • Double-click Hidden files and folders.
    • Click OK.
    • On the Standard toolbar, click Search.
    • Under Search for files or folders named, type Ezpwll32.wll.
    • On the Look in list, click the drive where Microsoft Word is installed. For example, click C:\ or Local Harddrives (C:,D:).
    • Under Search Options, select the Advanced Options check box, and then select the Search Subfolders check box.
    • Click Search Now.
    • Click the Ezpwll32.wll file that appears in the Search Results pane.
    • On the File menu, click Rename.
    • Type Ezpwll32.old and press ENTER.
    • Under Search for files or folders named, type Normal.dot. Please see the notes that follow these steps for more information about the Normal.dot file (global template).
    • Click Search Now.

NOTE: The Look in list should still display either C:\ or Local Harddrives (C:,D:) as in step 8.

    • Click the Normal.dot file that is listed in the Search Results pane.
    • On the File menu, click Rename.
    • Type Normal.old and press ENTER.

NOTE: Repeat steps 16-18 for each Normal.dot file that is listed in the Find dialog box. NOTES: After you rename the Normal.dot file, Word builds a new global template (Normal.dot) the next time you start and quit Microsoft Word. Note that when you rename the Normal.dot file, several options in Word may be reset back to their default settings or may be lost. These include custom styles, custom toolbars, macros, and AutoText entries. For this reason, it is strongly recommended that you rename the Normal.dot file rather than delete it. Certain installations may yield more than one legitimate Normal.dot file. These situations include multiple versions of Word running on the same computer or several workstation installations on the same computer. In these situations, you may not want to rename each of the Normal.dot files that is listed in the Find dialog box. You may need to pay special attention so that you rename the correct copy of Normal.dot. Macros, AutoText entries, shortcut key combinations, custom toolbars, toolbar settings, and styles are stored in the Normal template. After renaming the Normal template, you can copy macros, AutoText entries, shortcut key combinations, custom toolbars, toolbar settings, and styles to your new Normal template. Use the following steps to regain lost functionality after you rename the Normal.dot file:

    • Start and then quit Microsoft Word. This allows Word to rebuild a new Normal.dot (global template) file.
    • Start Word again.
    • On the Tools menu, click Templates and Add-Ins.
    • In the Templates and Add-ins dialog box, click Organizer.
    • In the Organizer dialog box, click the tab that you want to regain lost functionality.

For example, if you want to regain your lost styles, click the Styles tab.

    • There are two sides to the Organizer dialog box. One side shows your Normal.dot file in the Styles available in box. The other side shows the document you currently have open in Word [for example: 'Document1 (Document)'] in the other Styles available in box.

To open your renamed Normal.dot file (renamed Normal.old in step 18), follow these steps:

    • On the side that shows "Document1 (Document)" in the Styles available in box, click Close File. The Close File button changes to an Open File button.

NOTE: Do not click Close File on the Normal.dot (global template) side of the Organizer dialog box.

    • Click Open File.
    • In the Open dialog box, click your renamed Normal template file. For example, click Normal.old.
    • Click Open.
    • Click the items you want to copy from your renamed template to your new Normal.dot template, and then click Copy.

NOTE: To select a range of items, hold down SHIFT and click the first and last items in the range. To select nonadjacent items, hold down CTRL as you click each item.

    • Repeat steps 5-7 for any other items you want to add back to your new Normal.dot template.

NOTE: If you copy toolbars that you assigned custom macros to, you must also copy the macros. WARNING: Do not copy any macros whose functionality and purpose are unknown to you. City: hyderabad State: andhra pradesh
